We offer expert advice, consultation, assessment and training services, interventions and research to families, schools, local authority and private provider partners. Your Role

As an Assistant Educational Psychologist, you’ll make a huge difference, playing a big part in creating more positive outcomes through this highly rewarding role.

You will contribute to service delivery in a range of ways such as: direct consultations with settings and families, assessment with and gathering views of children and young people, developing and delivering training, research, delivering interventions and working on projects.

You will be supported to work with increasing independence and also alongside experienced Educational Psychologists (EPs).

You will receive quality supervision from a dedicated EP that will enhance your psychological thinking and skills. In the last few years, many of our Assistant/Research Psychologists have successfully gained a place on the Doctoral training course.

You will work alongside Educational Psychologists, Teachers and advisory professionals within our multi-disciplinary team applying psychology in educational settings.

Your Profile

  • You will demonstrate a passion for psychology and improving outcomes for children and young people. With a degree in Psychology, you’ll be eligible for graduate BPS membership.
  • Your degree should include components relating to children and young people and mental health or autism, plus you’ll have worked directly with young people who have special educational needs in an educational or training setting for a minimum of 2 years.
  • With this background, you will have a clear understanding of the current legislation and guidance for supporting children and young people with special educational needs. You will also have direct experience of putting into place interventions and support for these young people.
  • It will be expected in your role that you can draw on these experiences.  You will know all about safeguarding rules and practice.

Requirements

  • At least 2:1 Honours degree in Psychology (or recognised equivalent) and the Graduate Basis for Registration or Chartership (GBR/GBC) as a psychologist as required by the British Psychological Society.

Hours
A degree of flexibility is required, between 8am – 6pm Monday to Friday (37 hours a week) and you will need to be able to travel around settings in the Local Authority.
