The Access to Education Service plays a role in ensuring that all children and young people in Rotherham are in receipt of their educational entitlement. We are seeking a passionate individual who will make a difference to the lives of children in Rotherham by providing outstanding leadership to the team.
With responsibility for both Elective Home Education and Children Missing Education, you will manage a team of 4 colleagues supporting these areas of work. Alongside this, you will work directly with children and families, offering advice and guidance to home educators and those considering this pathway. You will play a key role in ensuring that every child who is home educated in Rotherham is in receipt of a suitable education.
As the Principal Officer, you will be required to attend regional meetings, lead on enforcement of school attendance when required and prepare papers for submission to court.

The post is being offered on a one year fixed term, start date 4 November 2024, to cover the absence of the substantive post holder. We welcome applications from both external applicants seeking a fixed term position and internal applicants seeking secondment (with the agreement of their current manager).
The post holder will be expected to work in line with the Council’s working location policy, with an office base at Riverside House. Due to the nature of the post, much of the week will be spent at locations across the Borough, including schools and family homes.
