Salary: £30,024 - £33,699 (starting salary within the grade range will consider experience relevant to the post, if required for external candidates).

The Role
An opportunity in a truly unique setting. Maple House isn’t just another children’s home, it’s a nationally rare transitional service supporting young people aged 12–18 as they step down from secure care at Aycliffe Secure Centre. Here, young people typically stay for 6 to 9 months, rebuilding their lives and preparing for a stable future in supported accommodation, registered homes, or back with their families.

This is your chance to work with a team that transforms lives, and to be part of something extraordinary.

As a Residential Worker, you’ll be at the heart of Maple House’s vision, driving forward the values and direction set by the Registered Manager. You’ll work within a dedicated team, ensuring that every young person receives the highest standard of trauma-informed care

In your role you will work together to guide and shape the culture of the home. You’ll be the bridge between strategy and practice, helping your team deliver life-changing support through strong relationships, consistency, and compassion.

  • Work with purpose: You’ll be a key figure in helping young people transition from secure care to independence.
  • Shape futures: Your working practice will directly influence outcomes for vulnerable young people.
  • Drive excellence: You’ll uphold and model outstanding standards under the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015.
  • Build relationships: You’ll work closely with families, carers, professionals, and your team to create a cohesive support network.

We’re not just looking for experience, we’re looking for visionaries. People who bring:

  •  Resilience and emotional intelligence
  • Working with heart and integrity
  • A passion for making a difference
  • The ability to inspire and empower others

If you are child centred, have a desire to support young people, feel that you can be a positive role model in a setting that truly matters and is aspirational for their futures, this is the role for you.

This is a hands-on position. You’ll work flexible shifts, including weekends, bank holidays, and sleep-ins, averaging 37 hours per week between 7:00am and 11:00pm. You’ll be present, visible, and actively involved in the day-to-day life of the home.

Maple House is more than a workplace, it’s a place where your work meets impact, and where your skills can change lives.

Applicants must hold a current driving licence and have access to a car (employees with a disability must have access to a means of mobility support).

All applicants must be aged 22+, an Enhanced DBS Disclosure is applicable to this post.

Our Commitment to Safeguarding
Durham County Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all employees and volunteers to share this commitment. This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore if successful in your application, an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be sought inclusive of a check of the Children’s Barred List, due to the position working in regulated activity. Applicants should be aware that the DBS check will disclose both spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings, in line with current legislation and will confirm whether an individual is barred from working with children.

Our offer to you
You will benefit from a comprehensive programme of training to support you to develop in your role.

As well as access to a wide ranging rewards and benefits offer, take a closer look via Rewards and Benefits.
