Wakefield Inclusion Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Support Service (WISENDSS) are seeking to appoint a dedicated and creative Deaf Instructor (DI) to join our team of professionals working with D/deaf children across the service. The successful candidate would be based within our resource provision – at either Castleford Academy (Secondary) or Rookeries Carleton School (Primary) with occasional peripatetic duties. This will be confirmed on appointment.
 

You will be an experienced Deaf Instructor with the ability and qualifications to teach Deaf awareness and British Sign Language and to support deaf students’ learning in the Resource base/ mainstream classroom. You will consistently motivate and inspire pupils whilst expecting high standards of attainment.
 

At our resource bases, we strive to create an environment where pupils enjoy learning and are given the opportunity to stretch themselves both academically and through a wide range of extra-curricular activities. You will work as part of a friendly, enthusiastic team of professionals, who are dedicated to improving provision for Deaf pupils. 
 

As a Deaf Instructor within the service you will have a commitment and passion to ensure quality access to whole school provision and delivery of excellent outcomes for deaf pupils.

Your role includes:

  • Planning learning support alongside the Teachers of the Deaf
  • Supporting and differentiating for pupils in the classroom
  • Teaching Deaf Awareness and BSL (Up to Level 3 standard) to Deaf and hearing pupils, staff and families
  • Planning and teaching language development / Deaf news and culture lessons to pupils
  • Safeguarding the pupils and guiding their social, emotional development
